Americans Become Wimps? The UK House of Commons Compared to US Congress/Senate

Some of the distinguishing elements of America are our bold, forthright speech. We used to say what we mean and mean what we say. There was no beating around the bush. But today our government tried to put in place, restrictions on what can and can't be said by our representatives. (see link).

I'd like to compare how our president comes to the House and gives a speech where no one is allowed to challenge him, certainly not allowed to say "you lie", compared to how in the UK, in the House of Commons the Prime Minister is basically grilled by the close-packed house. With successive members coming to the mic, the Prime Minister is expected to be fast on his or her feet and ready to give a cogent answer.

Watch as the Prime Minister is even ridiculed as he tries to answer the questions.  could you imagine our weak-willed politicians actually enduring this kind of REAL DEBATE??

Now I ask, what in the world has happened to the rough and ready America I used to know? We've become a bunch of pansy little wimps that are afraid to speak the truth because it might offend someone -- BLAH.

If U.S. Presidents had 'Question Time'

"[In the British political system of 'Question Time'] while it is true that most questions are more about political point scoring than policy, it still matters. Prime Ministers who can’t fight their corner, who can’t handle tough questions, and who don’t have quickness of mind and a command of their subject rapidly lose the confidence of their party, and then their office. Question time is a test of grace under pressure."
